New member vetting, proposer and joining procedure 23 [iss 3]

It is hoped that new members wishing to join the club have all been proposed and accompanied a member at some stage on the water to gauge their suitability to become a member of the club. However there will be instances where a person wishing to become a member of the club does not actually know anyone in the club to start this process. The club do not want to be seen as a club with an unfair membership process that does not give these persons the same chance of joining the club.

Therefore :

  • Anyone wanting to join the club who does not have a proposer should contact a Trustee by using contact details available on the website.

  • The Trustee will process the request by informing the other Trustees who will decide on the best form of vetting the applicant.

  • This could be a session on the water with a member, an interview/meeting with a Trustee or Trustees, or some knowledge of the applicant etc

  • A decision will then be made on the suitability of that person to become a member i.e., reasonable, competent, trustworthy and fits in with the ethos of the club.

  • Otherwise any applicant having a proposer will need to complete the application form available from the Membership secretary and then await information and instruction as to the next step in the process following the application form review by the Trustees.
